Duke Ercole I d’Este

In Ferrara during the reign of Duke Ercole I (1471-1505) at least five fabulous music manuscripts were made. One of these is a Chansonnier – a Book of Songs.

The book was possibly made for Ercole’s daughter Isabella on her betrothal to Francesco Gonzaga of Mantua.
